 | The Skeleton Rep(resents) is now accepting submissions for our 2022 developmental season! We focus on Exploring Modern Myth, whether they are myths from the past brought into the present, or an exploration of what is mythical about our own age. We are accepting submissions in two categories: full length and originals for our prompt-based short plays. |
Full length plays are eligible for both our signature Salon Series and our Craft Development Readings. All submissions should fit under our mission to Explore Modern Myth, but we are particularly interested in plays that broaden the meaning of myth and explore what is mythical about our contemporary age. Plays selected for Salons will receive a two-week rehearsal and development process with actors, with extensive opportunity prior to that for rewriting and one-on-one time between the playwright and our Artistic Director and Dramaturge. Salons culminate in a staged reading, which are often done virtually but may be done in-person if a playwright is NYC-based. Craft Development Readings are single-day virtual events that give playwrights and actors time to hone their craft. Playwrights will receive usable feedback on their work via our take on the Critical Response method.
Our short play submissions are prompt-based and will undergo a page-to-stage development process with the company. This year’s prompt is “scenes from service.” Short play proposals should feature a legendary or mythological character in a service industry setting. After an in-depth development process, some of the selected plays will appear in our 2022 short play festival.
