Submissions are open for the Salon Series once a year.

What is the Salon Series? In short, it is a new play development lab. The selected playwrights work on their accepted play with the artistic director and the dramaturg on generating drafts, before bringing in a group of actors for a 3-rehearsal process, which includes a critical response session. The playwright is intended to continue rewrites through the rehearsal process up until the public presentation, which is the Salon itself.

The Salon Application Process consists of 2 rounds. In the first round, we will ask you for:
  • character list
  • synopsis (150 word max)
  • 10 page sample
  • resume (2 page max)
  • an artist statement focusing on how your submission fulfills our mission to explore modern myth (250 word max)
The first round of applications are a blind submission, meaning that the team of readers does not know who the playwright is. We do this to ensure that we are considering scripts that fulfill our mission to explore modern myth.  Therefore, it is imperative that you remove your name from your submission materials (save for your resume, which only the artistic director reads).
If your submission advances to the second round, you will be notified via email and will be asked for some additional information, which includes:
  • the full-length version of your script
  • a statement answering the question "How do you plan on utilizing your development time with The Skeleton Rep(resents)? What aspects of your play do you want to improve upon and how do you hope TSR can enhance your process? (250 word max)
If selected, you will notified via email with a proposed date for your salon, as well as presented with a simple contract.  After the contract is signed, you will be asked to set up your first meeting time with the artistic director, where we will talk about your play, go over expectations for the process, and get you excited to get to work on your script!
