Artists in Residence - Playwriting Program
(Submission Window is 5/6 - 5/16)
What is this residency?
The Skeleton Rep(resents) Artists in Residency program is for 3 individuals who want to spend at least three months meeting regularly as a group to dive into playwriting structure as inspired by Bernard Grebanier and reimagined by Ria T. DiLullo for the 21st century.
With TSR’s mission to develop new works that explore modern myth, we encounter many great ideas that lack the structure the idea needs to support its potential as a play. The goal of teaching Grebanier is to provide a flexible armature that plays can stretch their characters and action over, to give it movement that keeps the audience engaged and comprehending throughout the duration of the performance. To participate, you can be an experienced playwright or new to the craft. However, if you are currently pursuing any degree, you are not eligible for this residency. Additionally, this year’s residency is solely for uptown Manhattan/southern Bronx residents. |
Who runs it?
Ria T. DiLullo (right), founder and artistic director of TSR, leads this residency. Ria is a playwright, producer, director, sometimes designer, and all-around theater artist. They have been helming Skeleton Rep for 10 years and championing the indie scene for far longer than that!
Michelle Cage (left), a longtime contributor in TSR, will assist. Michelle participated in the inaugural playwright’s group in 2023 and has developed a number of works with Ria. |

- What is your experience as a playwright? (For this residency, it is not important that you have a lot of experience as a playwright; what is important is that you're willing to learn playwriting structure as it will be taught in this residency, commit to the reading & writing assignments, and are available for all group meetings.)
- The Skeleton Rep(resents) mission is to Explore Modern Myth. The writing assignments will be with that in mind. What does "explore modern myth" mean to you?
